Sayat Nova’s performances are productions that tell a story of the Armenian people and their everlasting heritage. Whether it is the rebuilding of Spitak following the earthquake in 1988 or the chronology of the Armenian pagan and christian ancestry, each Sayat Nova production infuses a variety of media formats and theatrical affects to create a deep and memorable experience for the audience.

Mysticism.

A Sayat Nova Dance Company performance brings to its audience the unexpected. Through intricate choreography and ethnography, along with powerful music, vibrant costumes, theatrical lighting, and custom-built stage props, Sayat Nova engulfs its audiences into a different world from a different time. Each element of a performance brings you closer to the fabric of the Armenian culture — its rituals and traditions. This connection creates something magical and mystical, and leaves the audience with a renewed understanding of the breadth and depth of the Armenians long-standing history.

Dramatism.

Ethnographic dances tell a story of a people and a culture. Sayat Nova weaves theatrical elements through its choreography to add depth and emotion into each performance. These elements enable the dancers to not only see their movements as telling a story, but to immerse their hearts and minds into an identity. This imaginative process is at the heart of Armenian dance and what makes it a form of art. The audience is brought along on this journey which pervades through the Armenian culture and all cultures throughout the world.

Lyricism.

Music and poetry are an expressive language of a culture and a key element of a Sayat Nova Dance Company performance. Holding one of the oldest histories in the world, the Armenian people hold great pride in music as a way to tell their story, share their beliefs, and engage in celebration. The music and poetry of Sayat Nova, Gomidas, Hovhannes Tumanyan, Avetik Isahakian and other famous composers/writers create the backdrop of each dance and work in concert with the choreography to create an impactful and meaningful experience.
